I’ve been the producer of Summer SOUP at UO, I directed Machinal by Sophie Treadwell, and I do Dialect Coaching (which is what my dissertation is about). My dissertation examines the biases that audience members bring into performance when they hear accented language on stage. I examine how those biases affect their perception of both the character but also the show that that character is in! I am surveying a bunch of dialect coaches but also get to work in the Speech Perception and Production Lab in the linguistics department!

What would you like for your post-graduation career to be/focus on?

Dialect coaching? Advocating for more live performance? Creative labor organizing consulting? Research assistant? I’m open to possibilities!

What job(s) do you have now or have had in the past?

I’ve been a children’s theatre teacher! I’ve also been an artistic director and producer.

What GE positions have you held while at UofO?

I taught a whole bunch of Linguistics classes and have been an Instructor of Record in Acting! I’ve also been a TA for theatre history.

I got my Bachelors in Linguistics and Theatre at UNM, Masters in Linguistics at UO, and now I am working on a PhD.
