Glossary of terms (OR, how is GE pay currently structured?)
  • Annual (salary) rate: Your notice of appointment comes with an annual salary rate. This salary rate is actually calculated per academic year (i.e. it's based on a 9 month year). Your monthly salary is your FTE times the salary rate divided by 9.
  • Minimum GE Salary rate: The lowest rate at which UO can pay a GE. This number is set in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Some departments pay GEs at higher rates.
  • Across the Board increases: Raises applied to the salaries of GEs who are being paid above the minimum rate.
  • FTE: "Full Time Equivalent" refers to the percentage of a 40-hour week at which GE hours are capped. For example, a 0.49 FTE translates to approximately half time. Under the current pay structure, GEs cannot work more than half time during the academic year.
  • GE levels: GEs advance in levels (I, II, III) as they advance in their programs (although departments require different milestones for advancement). GEs (typically) advance in pay as their level increases.
