Happy May Day! Important information below!

Last Friday's Spring GMM marks the opening of our union's elections for executive board members and voting on bylaw changes. You all should have received a postcard in the mail alerting you to the opening of our election period. This email serves as a summary of the same information, as well as information on how to get involved. The nomination period for both bylaw changes and the executive board ends THIS FRIDAY (5/18/18).

4/27/18-5/4/18: Open nomination period for nominations of officers and bylaw change proposals.
5/14/18-5/18/18: Voting period
5/24/18: Results announced at The Great Cover Up (6 PM at Sam Bond's on 8th)!

We are as of today in the nomination period for the 2018-2019 executive board officers. You can read more about each officer position in the Spring GMM information packet or in the bylaws (conveniently posted on our website).

Please nominate anyone who you believe would be a dedicated, caring, and giving union leader– yourself included! We are in need of a strong leadership team as we face the potential of national Right-to-Work.

Nominations should be submitted directly to Rita Ludwig, VP for Operations.

Speaking of our bylaws, during this nomination period is also when proposals to make any changes should be submitted. Submit all proposed changes directly to Rita Ludwig, VP for Operations, operations@gtff.net.

Voting will be open from May 14th-18th. Eligible voters will receive a secret, secure electronic ballot to fill out during this period. They also will be sent an electronic invitation to vote via email before this voting period opening.
Local Union Victories!

We have been busy fighting for the rights of all the workers in our bargaining unit. Check out some of the victories that have come our way this year. Think you might have a similar issue? Contact Mike, the VP of Grievances.
  • A Graduate Employee in school psychology won almost a year’s worth of back pay through the grievance process after the department failed to pay them as a Level 2 Graduate Employee for months!
  • Larissa Petrucci, a Graduate Employee in sociology, received months worth of back pay after threatening to file a grievance when the department didn’t increase her to a Level 3 Graduate Employee as she advanced to candidacy!
  • A Graduate Employee in History was reimbursed for unfair and exorbitant student health insurance fees after filing a Step II grievance!
  • GEs in Environmental Studies are joined together in solidarity to fight for better workspaces and undergraduate confidentiality through the grievance process and direct action!
Save the Date!
The Great Cover-up is coming!

Like to sing, play instruments, or just want to have fun and help a good cause? We are still looking for bands! Our Annual fundraising event The Great Cover Up is on the horizon in Spring term!

We are seeking bands that have at least one union member to sign up and sing cover songs from their favorite musicians!

Proceeds from this night will benefit Food for Lane County.

**NEW THIS YEAR** Karaoke Contest before the Band competition!

Bargaining Survey
Every three years, we bargain our contract with the University. Next school year, we will begin to bargain again!

We want YOU to fill out a quick survey about your priorities as a worker and as a student here at
University of Oregon. This is your chance to participate in the process of setting our bargaining priorities for the upcoming bargaining cycle.
