Welcome to Spring term! Important announcements below!
NOMINATIONS

Nominations for the 2018-20109 executive board and department stewards will be solicited at the Spring General Membership Meeting and the week following via email. Nominations will close May 4. For email nominations, please contact Rita Ludwig, VP of Operations.

Interested in what officers do for the union? Check out the information in our by-laws here. Feel free to contact any individual officer if you have any specific questions about the scope and responsibilities of the job.

Also to be discussed are by-law changes for the 2018-2019 school year.
Update on AFT-OR State Convention:

On April 4th the AFT-Oregon committee submitted our union’s resolutions to be discussed during this year’s convention (resolutions are the way that our local unions influence the direction of our state and national AFT branches). We submitted ten resolutions, the majority of which were suggested at the Winter GMM by members. By sharing your ideas, you took an active voice in your union and the committee followed your lead. Thank you for your involvement and your ideas! (P.S. Didn’t get a chance to submit ideas for resolutions this year? They are solicited every year during the Winter GMM, so share next year if you can!).
Graduate Union Solidarity
Here's some news from other Graduate Employee Unions from across the country!

Labor Notes conference was held the weekend of April 6-8, 2018. Some our members attended a break out session with other Graduate Employees across the country to build national solidarity!
Reminder: Vote in ASUO elections!

The deadline is TODAY (Thursday, April 12) at 4 pm.

Your executive council has voted to endorse the Ducks Together platform. Please log on to duck web and vote! Click on the student menu, and select the first option "Vote now: ASUO 2018 regular election."
Bargaining Survey
Every three years, we bargain our contract with the University. Next school year, we will begin to bargain again!

We want YOU to fill out a quick survey about your priorities as a worker and as a student here at
University of Oregon. This is your chance to participate in the process of setting our bargaining priorities for the upcoming bargaining cycle.

Budget Committee

We are staring down the face of JANUS and "right-to-work" which would severely limit our ability to collect fair-share dues. A decision could be handed down by the Supreme Court any day between now and June. To prepare for this, the budget committee is holding an open forum to discuss options and cost-saving measures.

April 23rd
5:30 pm, GTFF Office

If you cannot attend and would like to give feedback on our financial future as a union, contact Mike Hudak, Treasurer
Privacy Alert!

One of our members has alerted us to the fact that some graduate students may have their private cell phone publicly available via the University of Oregon "Find People" website. Check here, to see if you have been affected.

The good news is that it's easy to fix. Just go to DuckWeb, then “Personal Information,” then “Directory Profile,” then deselect your phone number so it’s not displayed. The website says they incorporate Directory updates overnight, so if you change it tonight, it should be corrected by morning.
